How do I stop myself from sinning?

Glory to God (YaH) and His Son, Jesus (Yeshua)

There is one verse from the scriptures that I always recall whenever I need to strengthen my Spirit:

"But you know that he appeared so that he might take away our sins. And in him is no sin. No one who lives in him keeps on sinning. No one who continues to sin has either seen him or known him" (1 John 3:5,6 (NIV)).

"If we deliberately keep on sinning after we have received the knowledge of the truth, no sacrifice for sins is left, but only a fearful expectation of judgment and of raging fire that will consume the enemies of God.  Anyone who rejected the law of Moses died without mercy on the testimony of two or three witnesses. How much more severely do you think someone deserves to be punished who has trampled the Son of God underfoot, who has treated as an unholy thing the blood of the covenant that sanctified them, and who has insulted the Spirit of grace?" (Hebrews 10:26-29 (NIV)).

"If they have escaped the corruption of the world by knowing our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and are again entangled in it and are overcome, they are worse off at the end than they were at the beginning. It would have been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than to have known it and then to turn their backs on the sacred command that was passed on to them. Of them the proverbs are true: “A dog returns to its vomit,” and, “A sow that is washed returns to her wallowing in the mud”" (2 Peter 2:20-22 (NIV)).

"The one who does what is sinful is of the devil, because the devil has been sinning from the beginning. The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the devil’s work. No one who is born of God will continue to sin, because God’s seed remains in them; they cannot go on sinning, because they have been born of God. This is how we know who the children of God are and who the children of the devil are: Anyone who does not do what is right is not God’s child, nor is anyone who does not love their brother and sister" (1 John 3:8-10 (NIV)).

"We know that anyone born of God does not continue to sin; the One who was born of God keeps them safe, and the evil one cannot harm them" (1 John 5:18 (NIV)).

"Those who live according to the flesh have their minds set on what the flesh desires; but those who live in accordance with the Spirit have their minds set on what the Spirit desires" (Romans 8:5 (NIV)).

"The mind governed by the flesh is hostile to God; it does not submit to God’s law, nor can it do so. Those who are in the realm of the flesh cannot please God" (Romans 8:7,8 (NIV)).

"I know your deeds, that you are neither cold nor hot. I wish you were either one or the other! So, because you are lukewarm—neither hot nor cold—I am about to spit you out of my mouth" (Revelation 3:15,16 (NIV)).

"“‘But anyone who sins defiantly, whether native-born or foreigner, blasphemes the Lord and must be cut off from the people of Israel. Because they have despised the Lord’s word and broken his commands, they must surely be cut off; their guilt remains on them’”" (Numbers 15:30,31 (NIV)).

"And whoever does not carry their cross and follow me cannot be my disciple" (Luke 14:27 (NIV)).

"And now, dear children, continue in him, so that when he appears we may be confident and unashamed before him at his coming" (1 John 2:28 (NIV)).

Commentary

Sin becomes the master of the person who chooses to habitually sin. Sin becomes the master because it controls the mind, body, and soul. The Messiah said you become the slave to sin (John 8:34; Romans 6:6,7; Romans 6:16; 2 Peter 2:18,19; 1 Corinthians 6:18). If it wasn't your master, you could stop, but you don't stop because it is your master. You cannot serve two masters because you will eventually prefer to serve one master more than the other master (Matthew 6:24). Sin leads to death, but righteousness leads to life (Romans 6:16; James 1:14,15). The Messiah said, ""I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me"" (John 14:6 (NIV)).

Refuse to fulfill just one desire to sin intentionally, and you will discover overcoming those desires in the future becomes easier and easier.

Learn the truth, and the truth will set you free from sin (John 8:32).

The Messiah sacrificed Himself on the cross to defeat all sin. Sin cannot enslave you, if The Messiah is your master (Hebrews 9:26; Romans 6:6,7)!!!

The Messiah disarmed and triumphed over the rulers and authorities of darkness, so He has given Christians the power to take every thought captive (Colossians 2:15; 2 Corinthians 10:5).

When the devil tried to tempt The Messiah, The Messiah always answered, "it is written..." and then He quoted a scripture to deny the devil (Matthew 4:4,7,10). Follow The Messiah's teachings and example: "Then Jesus said to him, "Go, Satan! For it is written, ‘You shall worship the Lord your God, and serve Him only (Matthew 4:10 (NASB))'".
