Why does God let babies die?

If you have suffered the loss of a baby, I humbly offer my deepest sympathy to you for your loss of life, and I pray for all of us.

Please remember that our Father, God (YaH), allowed His perfect Son, Jesus 'The Christ' (Yeshua), to be whipped, crucified, and pierced to death for all of us.  This needs to be stated again and again:  our Father allowed His perfect Son, Yeshua, to be whipped, crucified, and pierced to death for all of us (John 3:16).

"At this, Job got up and tore his robe and shaved his head. Then he fell to the ground in worship and said: “Naked I came from my mother’s womb, and naked I will depart.  The Lord gave and the Lord has taken away; may the name of the Lord be praised.”  In all this, Job did not sin by charging God with wrongdoing" (Job 1:20-22 (NIV)).

The Holy Bible states, "And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose. For those God foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brothers and sisters. And those he predestined, he also called; those he called, he also justified; those he justified, he also glorified" (Romans 8:28-30 (NIV)).

As we all know, all human beings sin and die; it's just a matter of time for each of us (Romans 5:12).  We will join those who have passed away soon enough.  The Holy Bible states, "His attendants asked him, “Why are you acting this way? While the child was alive, you fasted and wept, but now that the child is dead, you get up and eat!”  He answered, “While the child was still alive, I fasted and wept. I thought, ‘Who knows? The Lord may be gracious to me and let the child live.’  But now that he is dead, why should I go on fasting? Can I bring him back again? I will go to him, but he will not return to me”" (2 Samuel 12:21–23 (NIV)).

For what reason would God allow a baby to die?  Our degree of wisdom is not able to understand the wonders of God's plan, so we can only make theoretical assertions about issues that are not presented in The Holy Bible. Drawing on past experiences does provide some possible reasons why God might allow a baby to die. For example, a husband might be willing to admit that he feels he is the focus of his wife's love and attention until the introduction of a newborn baby into the family dynamic knocks him down from the first position to the second position.  Each additional newborn baby knocks the husband down additional positions in receiving his wife's love and attention. We know that babies require a significant amount of love and attention, so the demands in life must be managed accordingly. Parents are forced to make adjustments, regardless of their preferences. Some parents might use their free will to choose adjustments that might eventually prove to have been bad choices. God knows everything about how a baby will effect a family from the beginning to the end. For example, God knows to what extent the needs of a baby will hinder the relationship between a married couple, and their personal relationships with God. God knows everything about the future, no matter how complex we make it by using our free will. God knows which families will develop closer relationships with Him, and which families would fail to develop closer relationships with Him.  With that given couple, at that given moment in time, at that given location, with those given circumstances, a baby could possibly be questionable in God's plan.

At this point you might prefer to stop reading because the remainder of this possible reason might be too sad for some people to read, regrettably. Many parents discover that at least one of their children could be labeled a 'difficult' child.  Raising just one 'difficult' child is often a lifelong journey of heartbreaking experiences.  For just one example, after changing a 'difficult' child's diapers many times a day for many years and dealing with the child's constant troubles, this child might eventually turn on the parents in a fit of rage and say, "I hate you".  The horrific impact this declaration has on the human spirit cannot be adequately described by words.  We pray the destiny of these children is not hell, and that these children will become believers in our Brother, Jesus 'The Christ' (Yeshua), and follow the path leading to forgiveness, redemption, and eternal life in Heaven.  However, even worse than a 'difficult' child, can we imagine what life would be like having to raise even one 'demon possessed' child, who is destined for hell?

Consider the following verses from the Scriptures:

  • "The Lord smelled the pleasing aroma and said in his heart: “Never again will I curse the ground because of humans, even though every inclination of the human heart is evil from childhood" (Genesis 8:21 (NIV)).

  • "Even from birth the wicked go astray; from the womb they are wayward, spreading lies" (Psalm 58:3 (NIV)).

The possibility exists that our Father, God (YaH), allows some babies to pass away early in life to save parents from future hardships that would be so severe they could NOT endure them.

Remember, as has already been answered through another question in this website, our Father possibly gives free will to our spirits before we are even born as human beings, allowing us to choose a life following the path to redemption and salvation, or a life seeking worldly rewards and sinful deeds.  Many, many, many choose the wrong path.
